Sierra Flor – Nursery, Kindergarten & School

General Objective:

Location: Mulaló, Cotopaxi, Ecuador

Expansion of the existing school to complete and provide better quality comprehensive basic education and thus break the cycle of poverty. Cotopaxi is one of the poorest rural areas in the country.

Specific objective:

Construct a building to expand the nursery and kindergarten services and increase the educational offer for the children of the communities living in the project’s area of influence. Fully equip the new services created with the project by providing didactic material, books and physics laboratory, necessary for the operation of the services created with the project.

Project Description:

To expand the existing school and be able to accommodate more children from the sector so that they can have an education within their reach.

In the parish of Mulaló and in the other 5 parishes in the area of influence, there are no maternity centers or day care centers; young children are left in the care of older siblings, all alone, or mothers carry them on their backs.

According to the analysis of the school-age child population and the supply of existing educational centers in the area of influence of the project, there is not enough supply of educational services.

The project’s area of influence includes the following parishes: Mulaló, San Juan de Pastocalle, Toacaso, Tanicuchí, Guaytacama, José Guango Bajo and Alaquez, which are home to 14,000 children who do not attend any school.

Project results:

Improve education in the sector and give more opportunities to children who do not attend school.
