School Scholarships in Pacto and Gualea
Project Objectives:
- Reintegrate children and young people into the education system.
- Provide formal educational opportunities for children and young people to attend educational centers and not to work in domestic and agricultural tasks.
- To reduce child labor in these rural communities so that they can exercise their right to education and break the cycle of poverty in which they live.
Location and Location:
For the implementation of this project, Fundación Nahuel, together with local authorities and teachers, verified the economic situation of the children’s homes. In some cases they are orphans or children abandoned by the migration of their parents and who are in the care of their grandparents. Another high percentage belong to dysfunctional families and/or children of single mothers or heads of household.
To start with, this project will be implemented in the rural areas of Pacto and Gualea which have been historically neglected or abandoned by the governments in power and where Nahuel has worked for 14 years. In these parishes the education offered is exclusively public and free of charge.
The Ministry of Education provides part of the uniforms and some textbooks; parents must provide school supplies and complete the respective uniforms for each institution.
In 2023 the project will benefit 39 scholarships, in the parish of Gualea 19 children and young people studying in 6 schools and the “Alfredo Pérez Chiriboga” Educational Unit at the kindergarten, elementary and high school levels. In the parish of Pacto 20 students of the “24 de Julio” Educational Unit, at the kindergarten, elementary and high school levels.
Project results:
Assistance was provided to 39 children and young people in the sector, who completed the school year satisfactorily.
Future plans:
The year 2025 we wish to resume and finance more scholarships for the children and youth of the community of Pachijal and the 9 other communities that are in the area of influence of “Colegio Pachijal” where there is a high percentage of children who do not attend school.
